Supplier Spotlight: Barrier Group Brings Engineering Expertise to NZT Power
20 July 2026 – Teesside – As construction of NZT Power, set to be the world’s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture, continues on Teesside, the project is already delivering significant economic benefits to businesses and communities across the region. As a result of a contract awarded by Technip Energies, North East-headquartered Barrier Group has created new engineering roles, and made further investment in its North East operations.
Barrier Group: Engineering Capability, Regional Growth
Barrier Group has been appointed by Technip Energies to deliver the design, engineering and supply of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for the NZT Power turbine hall, the central building within the combined cycle gas turbine power station, where electricity will be generated from natural gas. Barrier Group’s HVAC systems will ensure the correct environmental conditions are maintained within the building, supporting both the safe operation of critical equipment and a safe working environment for personnel.
The contract is being delivered from Barrier Group’s North East operations, with its HVAC engineering team based at the Haverton Hill facility in Teesside leading the engineering phase. The scope includes design and engineering of the hall’s HVAC systems, procurement of specialist equipment and materials, and project management of the package throughout the engineering phase.
Around 10 people are currently working directly on the contract, rising to nearly 20 at later stages. The award has already supported the recruitment of five additional engineering roles to strengthen Barrier Group’s team in the Tees Valley, and underpins the company’s longer-term ambitions to expand operations from its River Tees yard.
